Acer, Windows Vista and the lack of support
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 19:53The November 15 decided to install Windows Vista on my laptop, this must have been one of my worst decisions ever computer. Not only can I not find improvements from XP to Vista as I failed to get support for the battery system.
My Acer TravelMate 4001Lmi is one that uses something called "Microsoft SMART Battery Subsystem" smart has nothing because they simply do not work. Right now I have no idea how long the battery will last nor can configure profiles for use that will allow me to maximize battery life.
After much searching the only useful information I found was that I am not alone in this situation, Microsoft this forum there are many more to complain. So I decided to contact the support from Acer, it was not easy but there I found the e-mail (Support_Portugal@acer-euro.com) where sent to the following question:
I have installed Windows Vista but now I do not have the battery icon nor any kind of power management. Is there a driver I Can install to make it work?
The first answer I got informed me that:
Dear Customer
Please be advised that when changing the operating system, all the acer programs will be erased and therefore not able to view the item battery.
Graciously
Acer Technical Support
Did not enter into the discussion of the concept of upgrade and chose to just ask:
Therefore, the Acer does not support those who install Windows Vista?
Obviously, whoever was on the other side does not see anything the matter with an initial continued there any automated response:
Dear Customer
Not support issue, the issue is that when changing the operating system, programs are canceled, or only work in the original operating system

Technical Support
The issue has not been closed because I already sent the following e-mail three times and still got no answer:
The point is that I installed Windows Vista and I have no battery holder, I am not at all concerned with the software from Acer.
My concern is be using a computer without having any control over the battery. I've used the same operating system to other laptops from other brands and all the battery is detected and no control over it.
Is too much to ask for a driver (it's no program, it is a driver!) That make Windows Vista to detect the battery?
Conclusion
If you think using your laptop for more than the call did not opt for normal use once the Acer support should not learn more than reading the recommendations that are written in any written document is a date time.
Other reasons for not buying an Acer is the poor quality of the material: the ink of the buttons of the trackpad disappeared in an instant, the battery died after two years of the transformer and the cable broke shortly after.
To summarize: if one makes extensive use of computer forget the Acer.

Stupid question of who does not see much and who is lucky enough (apparently) to have a portable "not ACER and non VISTA" means the downgrade of the thing, is it impossible?
For these and other than XP ... melhoradito still here, but without those things cute for Vista.

Now replace Vista on Linux and you can imagine and that 'by the head in water to the staff of micro-informatics. And to me that I had to pretend to access control-panel reboots and when first I am not and do not need the second.

Ana,
Of course, the downgrade is possible, the problem is having time to make copies of everything I have on the laptop and reinstall XP and return to the site for everything.
Ze,
I have Ubuntu on the laptop and to use it several times now that the wireless Lusophone returned to work smacks to me that I will use more. However, Linux bothers me because it seems that is always missing something that works, now is the board of TMN (Huawei) that only works once in a while ...

Do not get me wrong, not told pores linux on laptop said to imagine this experience with the support with Linux instead of any version of windows. He believes that makes them much more confusion.

Do not be misunderstood, I was just to go ahead.
Never tried asking support for Linux for anything, it is easier to browse the net.

Yes, the problem and 'the hardware, not the rest of the' problems.
The types have the bad habit of associating with TFTs parties that have linux installed. A thing called gravity and 'higher reason. That and bad stuff, of course.

It is best to take your computer to a place where you give assistance. If you do not know how to install the OS worth paying more to those who know.
